Waciye! My name is Alyson and I am Mushkegowuk (Cree) and Irish on my dad’s side, and French on my mom’s side. I grew up in Ottawa and now make my home in Toronto. My beadwork journey began while I was studying in the Wabaan Indigenous Teacher Education Program at York University, learning alongside friends, colleagues, and mentors who generously shared their knowledge and love for this art form. What began as a way to bead in community soon became something deeply personal—an expression of creativity, a connection to my cultural heritage, and a mindful practice that supports my mental health and well-being. Over time, my small projects grew into a collection of pieces. With encouragement from friends and community, I began to share and sell my work. I don’t create on a set schedule—each piece comes together in its own time. When I have a small collection ready, you might find my work at a local booth, a pow wow, or here on my website. Each item is crafted with care, intention, and respect for the traditions that inspire it. While much of what I offer comes from my own creative flow, I also take on occasional custom orders. If you have something special in mind, I’d be happy to hear from you. My beadwork is more than just fashion—it’s part of a living practice that carries stories, relationships, and teachings in every stitch. Thank you for supporting handmade work and being part of this journey with me.
